Cathay Pacific’s First Class Lounge Revamp: What You Need to Know

Cathay Pacific’s First Class Lounge Revamp: What You Need to Know

Big changes are coming to Cathay Pacific’s lounge experience at Hong Kong International Airport. If you’re a frequent flyer or a business class traveler, you’ll want to pay attention to this update. With The Wing First set to undergo a major transformation, Cathay Pacific is temporarily converting The Deck into an exclusive first-class space throughout 2025-2026.

The Deck: First-Class Lite for Two Years

Located near Gate 6 and right next to the Qantas Hong Kong Lounge, The Deck is traditionally a business class lounge. But while The Wing First gets its much-needed facelift, The Deck will step in to accommodate first-class passengers, Cathay Diamond members, and Oneworld Emerald elites.

This move makes sense—The Pier First is at the far end of the terminal, and for many, the trek just isn’t ideal. The Deck will provide a more convenient option, especially for those with tighter schedules.

Cathay’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Lavinia Lau, emphasizes that the temporary shift isn’t just about convenience. The Deck is also getting a refresh to enhance the dining experience, alongside its signature Noodle Bar. While it won’t be an exact replica of The Wing First, it will offer what Lau calls a ‘first-class lite’ experience.

The Wing First Gets a Long-Awaited Upgrade

The Wing First has been a long-time favorite for premium passengers, thanks to its prime location just past immigration. Many travelers choose The Wing First as their go-to lounge before heading to their gate, and for good reason—its Champagne Lounge and Cabana Suites offer an indulgent pre-flight experience.

However, Cathay acknowledges that The Wing First is in need of a refresh. Once it closes in early 2025, the renovation is expected to take around a year. The goal is to bring The Wing First in line with the modern aesthetic of The Pier First, ensuring consistency across Cathay’s flagship lounges.

After The Wing First is complete, the renovations will move on to The Wing Business, with an expected timeline stretching from mid-2026 to mid-2027.

The Bridge Makes a Comeback

To compensate for the temporary loss of The Wing lounges, Cathay is reopening The Bridge, located near Gates 35-36. Originally launched in 2013, The Bridge was a favorite among business and first-class travelers until its closure in 2020.

Now, it’s making a return—with some updates. The Bridge will primarily serve as a business class lounge but will also feature an exclusive first-class section with enhanced dining options. Expect a design refresh inspired by The Pier Business Lounge, with improvements based on passenger feedback.

For those who remember The Bridge from its heyday, features like the Long Bar and the bakery (known for its fresh bread and pizzas) may be making a return. However, Cathay has yet to confirm whether The Bridge will remain a permanent fixture or if it’s just a temporary solution while The Wing lounges are under construction.

What This Means for Premium Travelers

Cathay Pacific lounges have long been a highlight of the airline’s premium experience, attracting not just Cathay’s own passengers but also those flying with its Oneworld partners. The temporary shuffle might cause a bit of inconvenience, but with The Deck stepping up and The Bridge making a comeback, first and business-class travelers will still have premium options at HKG.

By mid-2027, Cathay’s entire lounge network in Hong Kong will have received a significant refresh—offering a better, more consistent experience for those who value pre-flight comfort. Stay tuned for more updates as these renovations unfold!
