The Star Alliance member is planning a major cabin refresh on its Airbus A350s—complete with a brand-new business class suite and the long-awaited premium economy product.
This is part of Thai Airways’ big-picture fleet modernization strategy, with the retrofit program kicking off in 2028. The airline is teaming up with Airbus to deliver what they're calling a “state-of-the-art cabin experience” for long-haul travellers.
A Better Business Class is on the Way
Business class is getting a big makeover. The updated A350s will feature Royal Silk Suites, Thai’s next-generation business class offering. Expect lie-flat seats, privacy sliding doors, and an overall layout that's much more competitive with today’s best premium cabins.
Thai has been rolling out this new business class across its Boeing 787 and 777 fleets—and now the A350s are finally getting in on the action.
This revamp could also mean standardized seating across the fleet, which is a big win for business class flyers who crave consistency. Plus, you can count on upgrades to the in-flight entertainment system as part of the refit.
Say Hello to Premium Economy
One of the most exciting changes for savvy travellers is the introduction of premium economy—a first for Thai’s A350s. This new cabin class is ideal for those who want more comfort than economy without the business class price tag.
Premium economy will provide extra legroom, wider seats, and elevated service—ideal for long-haul routes to Europe, Australia, or North Asia.
First Class Gets Replaced by ‘Business Plus’
Interestingly, Thai is phasing out first class altogether on its A350s. Instead, expect a front-row ‘business plus’ product—think more space, more privacy, and extra touches that come close to a first-class experience.
There’s strong speculation that Thai Airways may be the launch customer for Thompson Aero’s Vantage Nova seat. This model includes a high-end Row 1 configuration designed to bridge the gap between business and first class.
Why This Matters for Points Hackers and Smart Flyers
With a refreshed business class and the addition of premium economy, Thai Airways is stepping up as a more attractive option for travellers using frequent flyer points, particularly those tied into the Star Alliance network (hello, KrisFlyer and United MileagePlus members).
Thai Airways is also celebrating its 65th anniversary and its emergence from five years of restructuring—making this cabin refresh a symbol of a new era for the airline.
Expect more announcements soon, including updates to uniforms, amenity kits, and in-flight service. But for now, keep your eye on 2028—especially if you’re chasing premium cabins to Europe or Asia.
